Come here if you want the absolute best sushi in Hampton Roads. Daikichi has incredible, authentic Japanese food for great prices. The owners / chefs are Japanese, as well as the wait staff. They are all very friendly and helpful, which makes your dining experience that much better. Their prices are incredibly reasonable, considering the quality. The food is exceptional, and comparable, if not better, than some expensive restaurants in cities like New York. This is not the place to go if you want some Asian fusion, Americanized rolls for your Instagram feed. There are plenty of other places for that. If you truly want an authentic experience where extra attention is spent towards every minute detail, come to Daikichi. This is the closest you'll get to eating in Toyosu while in Virginia. Highly recommend checking their Facebook page since they post information about lunch specials and fresh fish.
I am giving 2 stars to be courteous because the server was polite and it appeared to be clean. But we ordered the Caribbean tar tar (after this place and that dish was highly recommended to us) and it was awful. It didn’t taste fresh & we left with mild stomach aches - luckily we stopped eating & they nicely took it back. It has these small shrimp that appeared to be canned and it just was not fresh. So 2 stars for that because they did take it back. The portions were excessively tiny (even for a Japanese sushi place). I think this place was once better before but has perhaps gone down hill. I hate to leave a bad review but in this case it was warranted.
Must go to restaurant when I come to VA Beach to visit my son and daughter in law. The food is excellent and the service is friendly. the place is small so you may want to make a reservation. Some of my favorites are the Hiro roll, daikichi Roll and the Godzilla Roll. They're lunch special is very reasonable
I wish I knew what happened. At one point this was the best sushi in the city of Chesapeake, how times have changed. I couldn’t taste the difference between any of them. They all were overly bland. Not being able to tell the difference between 3 types of sushi is really wild. All I tasted was rice; what a supreme let down. This was my go to, they have the spot off to the side where you can sit at a traditional table, the ambience is exceptional, if only the food still matched. Please please please go back to what you were doing before, this new stuff must die like Romeo. I won’t ever return AND I had an upset stomach the next day :(. 31 bucks worth of sushi for not one drop of it to be delicious.
