It was my first time dining there. I will be back! The she crab soup was the best I ever had. The waitress was on spot. We were a party of about 20. Never did our glasses get empty. Wonderful experience.
The food was very good, service was great, and they are set up with excellent social distancing compliance measures. Our meals were delicious and servings were generous. Only disappointments were the appetizer (crab/spinach dip) and my cup of she crab soup. Both were light on crabmeat.
The restaurant itself is nice, clean, and appropriately distanced seating. Staff is very attentive and pleasant. The food presentation is appealing, but there are issues with the food. The crab dip was fine, although spinach was mixed in which was an unusual combination. The fried seafood platter portions were good; flounder and shrimp were good; oysters were a bit underdone; crab cake was bland; the hush puppies alone were very good...the butter that came with them had an unusual taste. When I asked our server about it, she stated it was mango butter. Disgusting! I understand honey butter, but mango butter with hush puppies is a new yuck! I didn't see that listed on the menu. The shrimp tempura tacos with pineapple slaw...the batter was not "tempura" crisp, but rather it was soggy. The "slaw" was regular coleslaw mix with pineapple chunks thrown in. Another "yuck" factor. I personally know that the Dock of The Bay that was in Portsmouth had amazing shrimp tempura tacos! It was the last thing I ate before it closed. Sad. I would like to give this restaurant another chance, to see if it was just a bad day, and not the norm.
Great place to eat. Food is fresh. Cold beer wonderful customer service. 5 Star 🌟 place
Quaint, quiet and pleasant atmosphere. The staff is very cordial and accommodating. The grilled salmon with the sauce pairing was AMAZING. Locally sourced seafood! A great gem before the James River Bridge on the Southside.
