Bartender saved our night. He was excellent, attentive and spot on with everything. We ordered dinner from him at the bar. Drinks were excellent and food came when he said. Made me and my wife fantastic drinks. He is the reason we will be back. Hostess was horrible, forgot we were there and never sat us. Sat others in front of us. She is out of her league and should not be employed. Yes, it is Saturday night but she was beyond bad.
Big party of 8-9 people. Food was good, waitress was a little overwhelmed but she did fine. Place was busy. What i didn't like was that they Automatically added the tip to the bill. I tip very well and I enjoy leaving a big tip. I feel like this practice takes away from my experience.
My family and I received lousy service at the Ocean House Waterfront restaurant on the evening of Thursday, June 3, 2021. The six of us sat down at around 6p for a meal of shrimp, crab legs, hush puppies, etc. As we ordered, the nice waitress told us not to worry about asking for refills of a single all-you-can-eat “Feast” platter of crab legs. She made it quite clear that she was glad to bring out refills of the platter so it would literally feed the entire table. We thought her offer was strange and overly generous, but we happily rolled with our good luck. We ordered the feast plate, a bowl of clams, and miscellaneous drinks. After the food arrived, we immediately ordered a second feast, realizing we would be ordering refills at a steady rate. When we were done eating, I asked for our bill. With what appeared to be practiced ease, the waitress dropped off the check, explained that she “had been caught” giving us extras by one of the other servers, and that we would have to be charged for four feasts. A generous tip was built into the total. The bait-and-switch deception – to charge us for a pack of multiple all-you-can-eat plates we would have never selected if given the choice – appeared to be effortless and, again, quite practiced. I kept my cool, but came away determined to speak up. Our family’s first night in Virginia Beach was marred by the unpleasantness of dealing with the waitress and two managers. Lesson learned.
This place is wonderful! My husband and I were greeted like old friends when we walked in. Our greeter had the sweetest demeanor! Then our server was so fun and kind. We tried the peel-and-eat shrimp. We only intended to go in for drinks and apps. We ended up ordering TWO of the shrimp, since they were so good and the drinks were great (I had a margarita and my husband had the beach bum rum runner)! The manager came out and spoke to us for a bit, nicest manager ever! She recommended we try the crab dip and it was so yummy as well! It was such an amazing experience we ended up going back the next day and actually ordering a meal! It was just as amazing of an experience as the day before. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND!
Great place for fresh sea food and a cold drink. The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff is very friendly. There is both inside and outside seating with a nice view of the beach. I recommend the hush puppys one of the best I ever had.
