Ten of us dined at the Saltine for our first time today for lunch. Everyone loved their meal. The she crab soup was incredible and the teriyaki beef melt was amazing. Our waitress Raven kept all of our drinks full and was very friendly. She had no problems customizing our orders and the food came out fast. Matt, the manager, personally visited our table to say hello and make sure everything was great. He served us a dessert that easily topped most desserts I have ever had. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of it. The atmosphere is also second to none. Obviously, no expense was spared when it comes to fine art and decor. The staff made us feel like both royalty and family. We will definitely be dining here again very soon and frequently. Thank you Raven, Matt, and staff for a great experience.
The aesthetic was beautiful, lovely atmosphere, and friendly staff but we were sat in the conference room next to this long counter that the waiters kept coming up to and grabbing stuff from, right behind my chair. The drinks were sub par, and for such a nice establishment we expected them to be perfect. We didn't drink our second round. Little things that threw me off about the meal: My drink came with a plastic straw. I had to put my own food in the to go box. The bread was awful and tasted too strongly of yeast. Everything felt a little rushed. We had 2 appetizers, 2 entres, 4 drinks, and we were only there for 30 minutes. It didn't feel worth the money, thankfully the waitress comped the drinks. She was very sweet and deserved the tip but the restaurant fell short. The manager didn't even come up to our table when hearing that we weren't satisfied with the meal. All in all, it felt like a 2 star restaurant in 5 star clothing.
Visited this restaurant and yesterday and was disappointed. I ordered the pan seared tuna. When I received the dish the presentation was amazing! The tuna was seared on both sides and rare (just like I like it) in the inside. I could cut the tuna with a spoon if I wanted to. I wanted to pair the rice with the tuna so I could get all the flavors and immediately ate crunchy rice. I asked my date to taste it and he definitely said it wasn’t me being picky because I hate sending food back. I waited only about 10 minutes to receive the plate and I begin eating it... and tried it with the rice again... and the rice still wasn’t cooked... The same tuna that seemed to be thrown in the microwave to have a little warm temperature on it. We could tell because the tuna was turned white and was no longer red like it was when it first came out. WHATEVER..I ate everything but the rice because I didn’t want to send it back again and have to wait again... we didn’t tell the waiter because he felt really bad the first time and kept apologizing. He was super sweet. Very disappointed for our first time coming to this restaurant....
Listed as the number 1 seafood restaurant in town. It was good. It wasn't great. The fried calamari in the appetizer was very good. The strange, very salty, creamy dip that came with it wasn't. I got seared tuna tacos - disappointing as the tuna was well done. My friend got the combo she-crab soup & lobster roll which were both good. Its a good restaurant. I don't know enough about Norfolk, but its kinda sad if this is the best seafood restaurant in town.
The waiter was really good. The calamari was well seasoned but overcooked. The fish sandwich came out dark brown and burnt. I asked if I could get a chicken sandwich instead. The waiter said "of course." He then brought me 1/2 of a perfectly cooked fish sandwich and said that the chicken sandwich was coming but that he wanted for me to taste the fish done right. I thanked him for his kindness. He never brought the chicken sandwich. The iced tea was delicious!
